Conditions

Female Prolapse

When the pelvic muscles and ligaments are stretched and weakened, as from child birth, from heavy lifting, severe coughing, or straining from constipation, the back of the bladder can sag into the vagina causing discomfort, problems with urination, or painful intercourse.

Treatment Options

Cystocele, or bladder prolapse as it is called, often responds well to kegel exercises which strengthen the pelvic muscles. More advanced cases may require estrogen replacement therapy, electrical stimulation, biofeedback and a pessary (vaginal support device) to provide better support for the organs. Surgery is usually recommended in severe cases.
